Re: R75/5 later carbs

Welcome! If it were me, I'd run the settings/specs based upon the carb number. Unless I'm reading it wrong, going to a smaller needle jet will make the bike run leaner...of course there is a needle that goes along with that, too. A main jet doesn't really make significant differences until you get d...

Re: Voltage regulator questions

Years ago, I replaced the multi-terminal cable that connects on the backside of diode board to the three phases on the alternator. I think I was putting on the solid mounts (my board had the rubber mounts) and noticed that the multi plug had corrosion build up in it. Got three separate thick cables ...

Re: Voltage regulator questions

What model/year bike are you talking about? You should probably measure the resistance across the slip rings on the rotor. Carefully life the brushes off and slip in a business card. Measure ring to ring.

Re: Float adjustment

I think Barry has stated an important aspect of adjusting the floats. It's a starting point for future assessment. But I'll also add that it seems that with the float body parallel to the body of the carb, that puts the most pressure on the needle and seat to ensure it stays sealed. With the float p...

Re: Float adjustment

Let me get right on that! I wasn't trying to say that it was perfectly level, but given that the forces balance out when in turns, and that the bike has a decent suspension, it's not going to be all that "bubbly" in my estimation. Sure, maybe some ripples here and there. But you want the m...

Re: Float adjustment

I understood what you were saying. Most of the time, we're riding down the road straight-and-level. In turns, we've leaned the bike over and the forces keep the fuel more or less level. But if the fuel level is too low, it's harder for the carb to draw the fuel into the throat of the carb. Clearly y...

Re: Float adjustment

It does take more differential pressure in the carb throat to lift fuel from a low volume position in the bowl. Thus, it might lean the mixture out somewhat in that case.
