R80/7 battery recommendation

Postby Tony M. » Thu Jun 14, 2012 9:43 pm

I'm new to the forum, but not new to BMW's. I've owned an 1978 R80/7 for 30 years. It hasn't been ridden much in the last couple of years and I would like to put it on the road again. I need a new battery and am interested in the Odyssey battery which I put in my Moto Guzzi and am very happy with. The Odyssey web page recommends the PC925L battery. I visited the Boxerworks parts store and they are recommending the PC680 for the airheads. I was hoping someone on the board could shed some light on the subject. Thanks. Tony

Gidday Tony, welcome aboard.

I haven't run an odyssey myself but the pc680 has been mentioned here often and I believe it's a good fit.

It's a bit like tyres, some like 'em, some don't.

The PC 680 is smaller than the ones that came stock on early /5. That said, they have more cranking amps and no acid to leak. Some here, myself included, have had them fail suddenly for no apparent reason. I still run them on my bikes.
