Just got in from test ride on the r90. Jean was wright, a stretched timing chain. With new chain and tentioner. Everything is as is should be. Thanks again for all who contributed

Jean, the bike ran the same slightly better maybe. I probably didn't replace the capacitor but I will. I've already removed timing chain cover and have ordered new chain and tentioner from ReCycle. It wasn't all that expensive. We will see what happins

Ken, the old points were removed 2 yrs ago, the new points are fine. To get the timing close enough to run well it has to be retarded to the max.

The points I have now look just like the points I took out.

Tim, with s mark at the line and baseplate turned clockwise to the max the light is on. With s mark on the line the light stays on at any position. I whent ahead and removed timing chain cover to check the timing marks they appear to be matched. I'm thinkin Ill replace timing chain and go from there...

Jean, I got my base plate at the midway point of adjustment. My points were set when at a high point on the shaft lobe at 38mm. Ignition on, rotate engine at rotor in clockwise direction the test light comes on just as the F dot mark appears

Also the points were at 16 and I'm using a clymer manual

I got it wrong on the last post, the base plate was rotated clockwise to the max
