extended stay in carb cleaner dip and a good amount of compressed air did the trick, will be ready try and start the bike again soon... fingers crossed

update -- so it appears my idle jets are clogged, had one sitting in carb cleaner overnight and still cannot get the crud out of it. will hit it with some compressed air but even with a tiny needle i cannot get the jet cleared...
any tips/tricks/suggestions??

duane, thanks for insight. i have your page bookmarked but conveniently skipped the part about the condenser. still have old parts. we shall see. i have feeling its a blocked carb passage.

airbear, yes i rotated it a few times and got what seems to be "s" in the central position for both sides. i will take another look, it never hurts to become more familiar with the process and what used to take an hour now takes about 10 minutes to check and set. my test light comes on at ...

no worries i'm not too proud to ask, been googling this issue for weeks and although i have made mild progress i am still waiting for the "AHA" moment. i am planning on buying a new coil this week to see if it improves the sparks. that and go through the carbs again.

fuel is getting to both carbs, the float bowls fill. tank is in pretty good shape. i will pull petcocks and clean as well.

thanks guys, yes i have cleaned carbs and installed news o rings and gaskets, valves have been checked and rechecked, are correct settings for intake and exhaust. when i push carb diaphram up it slowly comes back down, choke hole in float bowl is unblocked. this was my first airhead carb cleaning so...
