Re: extra fork spring?
Barry, thanks for the image/ diagram. Yes the spring is in the area marked "A". MS the rest of the "bits" of the fork are correct for the r65 so I believe it is a r65 fork. The spring is too large to be used in place of the bushing. The question is should these be used? I really ...

Re: extra fork spring?
Thanks for the information. I still am having trouble uploading the photo, but a bit of detail. The damper rod and washers spacers valve is placed in the stanchion and a circlip holds it in. Then the short spring and damper rod seat "live" in the sliders. Kinda strange, but who knows what ...

extra fork spring?
1979 r65 I am rebuilding my forks and have found a spring that I can not find in the fiche or other documentation. Should it be there? Should I keep it? The spring is 3 X 1.25 inch, it on the damper rod between the damper rod seat and the valve housing. I tried to post a photo, but I am having diffi...

Re: 4 stroke fuel usage
So another stupid question, is it the increase in volumetric efficiency that causes the rpm to increase in the first place? Am I just asking my first question backwards and upside down?! Thanks

4 stroke fuel usage
Just a strange question. Does each cycle of a 4 stroke engine use the same amount of fuel regardless of the RPm's? Another way of stating the question. Will the same amount of fuel be used for 100,000,000 cycles at 1000 RPMs, vs 3000 RPMs, vs 10000 RPMs? This is just a theoretical question, I am not...

Re: Oil Pressure light on
Well, I got hold of a oil pressure sensor and installed the unit. Went for a 5 mile ride, no light. Went for a 15 mile ride no light. I'm thinking it was a faulty sensor. Although the issue was stressful (for me) I did learn/ experience several things: 1. My oil filter shim/ filter/ gasket/ canister...

Re: Oil Pressure light on
I was pretty worried about the threads also, so I threaded the tester in by hand, it was very smooth and when it stopped I just barely snugged it up. The point about it leaking was not that I was worried that the tester didn't fit correctly, but more that even if the tester read incorrectly there se...

Re: Oil Pressure light on
Okay, I bought a cheap oil pressure tester. I removed the oil pressure switch and threaded in the tester. I snugged it down, but not very tight. Started the bike and the pressure read 90 psi at idle and over 140 when revved. I was also leaking oil lots of oil from the tester hole. I turned off the b...

Re: Oil Pressure light on
No joy!!! So I received my parts. Changed the oil and filter, including 3 shims and no paper gasket, bolts on filter cover snug. Filled with oil, cranked without starting to fill oil filter. Started up no oil light drove for ~4 miles and the oil light came on. Pushed and glided back home. Any ideas?

Re: Oil Pressure light on
Barry et al, The good news is I pulled the oil filter cover as recommended and found a white o-ring and a metal shim. The bad news is when I measured the canister depth (tube to case distance) it was 4.12750 which indicates it should have 2 or 3 shims. I ordered some more shims hopefully this was th...
