Re: Oil in cylinders

Hi wobbly thank you for your interest! I forgot to write about what I found when disassembling the starter cover and everything. I found a reed valve, I thought the ‘77 model had the disc type so either I am wrong or somebody changed it. Can the reed valve be oriented wrong ? Read something about th...

Re: Oil in cylinders

I found that keeping the oil at half and re-routing the crankcase breather out through the air box and up under the seat with a small filter at the end helped a lot ! Almost did the job. Either the valve guides or oil rings on the left side is bad. I really think the heads are in good shape, as far ...

Re: Oil in cylinders

I found what I was missing, taking the front cover off you are able to remove the starter and get to the breather 👍 Will start the bike without the air filter covers and starter cover with the oil in the engine at half full and se if it pumping oil through the breather! Any thoughts on how the left ...

Re: Oil in cylinders

So wobbly you think there is a nisse (great danish word for gnome!) in my air box high on fumes? So if I use pod filters it will all go away ? :) I really can't figure out how to get to the breather valve with the starter assembly in the way and I can't find a good way to take the starter off. My ma...

Re: Oil in cylinders

Hey Rob ! Thank you for joining, it was mentioned and I am aware of the fact. I took the carbs and air filter off and found oil in both intakes. The right carb is soaked in oil and the right side intake albow is soaked as well. It seems weird since its the left side cylinder that contains the most o...

Re: Oil in cylinders

Thank you for your reply Barry ! I know about the crankcase volume issues and will check oil level later. I would like to install a deeper oil pan at some point but I will then need to change the center stand for a newer one with only 1 cross tube or what you want to call it ? The '81 on models, hav...

Re: Oil in cylinders

Forgot to say I checked the rings in the bore and the end gap measured as new. Could the cylinder be distorted but still have good compression? I am starting to feel silly, I can see in my own picture of the intake that there is oil in the rubber mount ....! So yes the oil must be from the intake. B...

Re: Oil in cylinders

I appreciate advice from people who has done this longer than I have been alive! I will take the covers off the starter and air filter later today. But one thing I am not sure I understand is how it can be more in the left side than right side when the line from the breather is directed to the right...
