Re: carb adjustments
so as I looked into doing this shorting approach, I discovered that my coils aren't set up with the lower plugs going to one coil and the upper plugs to the other. Each coil connects to a lower plug and an upper plug on the opposite side. I forget where I got the diagram for setting it up, but I use...

Re: carb adjustments
interesting to see this discussion about dual plugged set ups. I didn't know too much about the benefits--the bike just came that way. You'll have to disconnect the power supply to the lower coil to use my method. could you explain how I do that? I'm a little worried about screwing up my ignition/co...

Re: carb adjustments
That description makes sense, thanks. However, I read somewhere (perhaps the snowbum website) not to do this shorting method for a dual-plugged engine. Additionally, the instructions that came with the new electronic ignition (enduralast) said not to use this method with the ignition, so I had not b...

Re: carb adjustments
your comment here raised a question for me: You can do it either way. You can shut down one side at a time by screwing in the mixture screw all the way and then adjusting the opposite side. Then precisely count the turns (so you can later put it back exactly where it was) while screwing it back in t...

Re: carb adjustments
Ok, so I just tried as you suggested, screwing in the fuel screws all the way. When I did this on the left, the engine died. However, on the right, the engine kept running. So I presume that my idle circuit isn't working properly on the right side. What do I need to check out? Is there something tha...

Re: carb adjustments
this explanation is helpful. It is similar to what I'd done before to synch. however, I had read a write up that took a different approach to getting the initial mixture correct. I had read to start with them way *out* and then slowly screw in until the RPM drops, then back out 1/8th turn. That's ho...

Re: carb adjustments
GSPD, thanks again for this info. That video was useful--that's essentially the overhaul that I did. I believe that I put it back together exactly that way, but now I'm going to double check that I aligned the teeth inside of the actuating lever correctly with those teeth that pull the cables. Also ...

Re: carb adjustments
So much good information! I'll try to respond to everything so you can understand where I'm at... I did double check the position of the butterflies, just two days ago I made sure that they were installed correctly per snowbum's detailed instructions. I had put in new butterflies, shafts, screws, sh...

Re: carb adjustments
Thanks to you both for this information. I had it backwards about the fuel screws--I had read in a post somewhere that leaning it out would reduce the popping. good to know. the compression is good--150 PSI in both cyls. I'm most interested in what you (GSPD) said about the issues with the choke. It...

carb adjustments
I have been fiddling with my carbs for a while and can't quite get things dialed in. I've read a LOT of info online. Wondering if folks on here have some knowledge to share. My bike is a 78 r100s, 40mm bing carbs, dual plug setup. I installed a new electronic ignition/coils (enduralast), set timing,...
