Re: R75/5 Original?
🤣 busted. The clam shells and front cover were me giving them a clean and running steel wool over them, although on all of the air heads I’ve owned, these items have a much smoother finish than the engine and gearbox casings and tend to have a slightly different colour. The bike was bought in 1975 w...

Re: R75/5 Original?
I think we’ll have to agree to disagree on this one. As I have said before, the bike has a nice history and the previous owner from 1975 to 1985 has provided a number of written accounts of long trips on the bike with his wife on pillion (I guess the seat cannot be that uncomfortable on long journey...

Re: R75/5 Original?
Agreed, however it will be even less original if I replace it with anything else. I was very fortunate to be able to talk to the second owner who is still alive. He bought it in 1975 and had the original seat base recovered with the the seat in the picture. So, although not a factory original coveri...

Re: R75/5 Original?
An update. When I removed the rocker covers I discovered a previous owner had etched their name and town on the inside of both in a lovely cursive script. This made me think that the owner clearly cared about the bike and I started an internet search, and found a name that matched, but unfortunately...

Re: R75/5 Original?
Thanks Rob. When I did the oil change and removed the old filter and had a good look inside, and found, as you said, the old rubber O-ring at the far end of the tube. I hooked it out. Fortunately the filter hadn't collapsed. Are the German-made filters still marked 'West Germany' or have they unifie...

Re: R75/5 Original?
The '73 I have was green with pinstripes on the tank. I'm way from an expert on BMW, but I noticed a few things. The battery covers. I believe were chrome with black painted panels. Yours look like blue panels. Also the tube from the carb to airbox I don't think was black. Not sure what color origi...
