Re: Front Brake needs some hand muscle - ATE single disk

A 13mm handle bar master with no other changes, converted my single disk, 1975 R90 from goofy bad to acceptable and much more pleasant to ride.

Re: New Toaster

A bad idle can be related to tight valves. Adjusting them is easy and free and lets you find all the other little things. If the problem comes back in 1,000 miles or so it can be the onset of your first expensive repair, new valve seats.

Re: Robert M. Pirsig, Zen and the Art of....dies at 88....

In about 1973 on my first cross country motorcycle trip I rode I Honda 500/4. I met a guy in Kansas, who was traveling from somewhere east to his new future home in Colorado. He was on a Triumph 500 with a right hand shifter. He had the book and we read to each other from it on our several nights ca...

Re: R100 vs R65

In 1985, BMW changed its airhead line to R bikes and GS bikes. There was the R65, R80(?) and R100, which, unlike previous years, now shared the same rolling frame, and I believe the same engine, but smaller cylinder diameter instead of shorter stroke? I didn't know that. Which probably shouldn't be...

Re: R100 vs R65

I had an R90/6 and an R65 for 10 years. They were different bikes with something to like (or dislike) about both. The R65 was shorter, had lower gears, shorter stroke which made the engine smoother at sub 50mph speeds, and it was strong up to 60 mph. I also had no faring or bags on it. The lower gea...

Re: Getting My '83 R100RT Up On Center Stand Difficult

I have not seen it listed here, and it seems obvious, but I have seen it done wrong lots of time. As Ken said, get the stand down, plant your foot behind the stand, LEAN THE BIKE AWAY FROM YOU UNTIL THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STAND HITS THE GROUND , and then lift an pull back. It feels weird leaning the ...

Well - it was $12.

When you add the cost of the wrong flasher that I bought first it comes to $26. Still cheaper than the $85 OEM.
