Re: Advice needed: tank lining
Thanks everyone! I had considered just cleaning and using GSPD, as the rust is really only a dusting over otherwise bright metal. I reckon Melville’s vinegar treatment, a flush and use thereafter is where I’m at!I’ll monitor and decide on a coating if required. The RedKote info was great! Thanks PAS!

Advice needed: tank lining
G’day all. I’ve just acquired a new tank for the mighty R80g/s. A rare 45 litre Heinrich (by Theofried Jekel) ….. massive, in great nick. Inside, the tank is unlined, not coated and by torchlight through the filler, has a very, very lite surface rust. After treating the rust I’d RedKote the inside b...

Re: Driveshaft: caught just in time
G'day Jeff! Yes...good call...I'm a crap welder!! But there must be significant stresses on that yoke as some of the other welds had the beginning of fractures across them which I had to repair. Still, I can't get over the 'repairabilty' of so much that I've been able to break over the years and the...

Driveshaft: caught just in time
My old ‘81 r80g/s is a pearler. Oct. 1980 build. In its 350,000 k lifetime, it’s on its third set of rings, has had cam chains, rotors, diode boards, regulator, diff bearings, exhaust headers (the originals went porus!) broken spokes, bent handlebars, flogged needle jets, valve guides, clutch plate…...

Re: What have I got here?
Thanks ZM! I don't really know which way to go..... The thing is so long I think going 'tank to tank' on that solo seat could be an eye waterer!!! Not much ball room! But you're right, it would certainly attract attention but is primarily an ultra distance accessory and as per the other pics, its 'l...

Re: What have I got here?
Hi Rob and Steve. Thanks for the replies. You know, I might have been a little hasty with the initial 'butt ugly' appraisal, 'cause its hard to visualise how it could look...... With a little further digging, I turned up this ......."This tank was on my 1984 BMW R100RS Limited Edition and hence...

Re: What have I got here?
That's awesome Steve! One question answered! The other is, what do I do with the bloody thing? God...is it ugly!!! :? There's just no getting around it! From the couple of pics you've sent, I reckon you'd need to be on the juice to find it appealing!!! Googling Heingericke, they appear to be a...

What have I got here?
Hi everyone. My first post for a few years.......still airhead crazy! I'm in the midst of a dilemma! I purchased a heap of airhead parts earlier in the year and in the cache of bits was a HUGE fuel tank .....38-40 litres capacity (est). http://i1064.photobucket.com/albums/u374/hools100RS/DSC02030_zp...
