Re: Batteries - a confession
I have not stumped for a charger, as you can use a normal charger as long as it does not have one of the 'de-sulphate' (?) modes. And the post 81 BMW R100 regulator is up to the job. Just remember, when you start it up, go for a ride. And switch off them heated grips/vest/seat a few minutes before t...

Re: Batteries - a confession
The ballistic 12 cell Lithium Ion battery is now fitted to my R100. All is working well. I am pleased with the loss of 16lb and the battery tray, and the fact that the battery is now almost entirely out of view under the saddle. It is also pretty energetic in the starting of the bike. I have incorpo...

Re: Batteries - a confession
I am currently fitting on of them new fangled Lithium Ion Batteries to my 1982 r100. A 12 cell item that is more than 16lbs lighter than the lead acid battery it replaces. It is so small that it will be hidden under the seat almost out of view. Its a Ballistic item and was a bit expensive. The bike ...

Re: Rim swap - 75/7 to an R100T
I have ben running my 1981 R100 with spoked wheels for some time. And my R65 café Racer, before that. I used a 3 ribbed front hub from an ST or GS. I changed the carriers on the discs, from shallow dish carriers of the R80/100 bikes to the deep dish carriers from an R65. This is to line up the discs...

Re: One down, one to go (I hope!)
I would be checking my float bowls first, unless there is something else you have recently disturbed. When I have found water in mine, I would get a misfire and bogging down at higher RPMs/speeds, which is not your symptom. Dirt/debris is another matter, however. You mention the tank. Have you ever ...

Re: MaxBMW R90S Build
Sometimes you just get along with whatever bike is easier to get along with... Perhaps it is about how much money you got wrapped up in the bike, makes you more wary or precious about it. whereas you can relax on the R90/6 as it does not draw attention to itself. I doubt if you have made a peaky, di...

Re: MaxBMW R90S Build
I am not sure what all the fuss is about R90s's is. I would not buy one. Not because they are a bad bike, because they are not. But because they are collectable which means that they are now pricey - like having a R90S tax. I understand what there are and where they fit in history, etc. If I wanted ...

Re: R100R 1993
I have used lace up boots for 20+ years with no issue. I suppose the trick is how to tie them up. No long loose hoops to trip yourself up with......Seems far too sensible to me. I actually only use one lace tied at the bottom of the boot and once I have threaded it through all the holes I need - say...

Re: R100R 1993
Finding comfortable gloves, that you are prepared to pay for might take some time. When you find a pair, buy two pairs. When you wear your original set out, they will have been dropped them from the line, or redesigned them. Give yourself a chance to find a new design. Buy proper bike gloves - they ...

Re: '75 R90/6 HEADLIGHT DIMMING after 4000 rpm...
Perhaps you are going so fast and pulling so much 'G' that all your blood is running away from your head to your feet. The diming of your vision in low light is the result......If you go to the red light you might even black out? If a 'G' suit and compressor is not available, how about tightening yo...
