Re: Transmission removal
You can leave it on. For the wheel just pull it back after removing the swing arm pins and the drive shaft bolts...then hold the wheel rearward using cargo strap. Works for me.

Leak down test could tell you something about the condition of the valves/seats. A common cause of valve failure and valve seating problems is guide wear.....on any engine. No, it won't directly tell you the condition of the intake or exhaust valve guide but it might tell you a valve isn't seating r...

Re: Relocating Key Switch From Headlight Shell
The european wires are listed in order of size in mm^2 cross sectional area. AWG is what's normal in the States. I'd say go with the 12 Ga...why not? not much difference in cost.

Re: Bing CV black plate - white letters
I repainted mine this way: 1. Cut some scrap inner tube and glue it flat to a small block of scrap pine using super glue. 2. Use some brake cleaner to get all oil off the black plate. 3. Find that can of white rustoleum spray paint you have in your garage you were saving. 4. Crouch down near the pla...

Re: Gearbox Output Flange Removal
I was able get mine off using two lengths of pipe, 1'dia x 4ft long. One pipe on the bar for the "bmw" tool and one against my chest, pulling the one with the bar toward me. Chest was sore for a few days after but it popped off and put a slight bend in that ~5/8" dia bar...but I strai...

Yes that is a good test path but unfortunately it isn't reliable for an intermittent HES fault. For an intermittent fault, if step 1 proves good you just pull out your spare bean can and try it.

This is the lowest price I've found in the US. You can probably get one from Jaycar in AUS.

Re: Conked out three times today
Steve If you can get the plate out that has the HES's mounted on it, here's the way I found easiest to remove the old HES: Use some wire cutters or small hacksaw blade to break the plastic near the two rivets. Remove the rest of the plastic around the rivets. Next use a Dremel with a cutting wheel t...

Re: Conked out three times today
What's most likely to heat up and not start until it cools down?te] My guess would be a Hall sensor or coil. Just this last weekend I replaced a hall sensor in a bean can owned by my friend. The old one tested bad on the bench only when I applied a little heat to the sensor with a heat gun. It was ...
