Re: 1979 R65 Rear Main Seal and Clutch R&R
All R65 bikes have an O-ring in the flywheel. It's the same as all other Flywheel O-rings, which started in mid 1975. The "heavy" clutch on the 79-80 R65 is not the same as the heavy clutch on the other bikes. It is used only on the R65 for 2 years, in 9/80, ALL BMWs got the new style clut...

Re: New 8 tooth starter
All in all, I will attempt to keep Chinese Crap off of my German motorcycle whenever possible. It's more and more of a struggle every day.
Besides, 4 new bushings and a set of brushes and the old Bosch is like new again.

20 bucks is not that expensive for a factory part that under normal use, may go bad once in the life of bike. But that's just me.

Re: R75 bottom end R100 top end?
An R90 top fits nicely onto an R75/5 bottom. (That's what I was riding when it went into the "wet-cat" mode.) I'd check the measurements for the block boring job and the cost...then consider if someone would make a swap if the numbers don't come out OK for you. We assume you have the push...

Re: R75 bottom end R100 top end?
You don't have to "mill" anything off, you have to bore the cases up to the same size as the spigot on the jugs. It is more work but a better solution. What's even a better solution is boring your R75 jugs out to R80 size and pick up some R80 pistons. (get the pistons first) Now THAT is a ...

Re: New 8 tooth starter
Yes MAttfish, you are incorrect . The starter the OP bought is one of cheap Chinese copies of a P.O.S. Valeo. The ad from EME states that it's better than the reduction drive Car starter. Rick at Motorad Elektrik is the one selling the re-configured Japanese gear reduction car starters. I for one, w...

Re: New 8 tooth starter
The Valeo starters were/are made in France. When they first hit the streets and then started falling apart several years later, we at BMW dealers named them "the French Revenge" But I thought we LIBERATED them! Now, if they had only sold them in Germany... I was talking about Germany! BMW...

Re: New 8 tooth starter
New from EME, an "airhead priced" gear reduction 8 tooth starter for 70 to 76 bikes. http://www.euromotoelectrics.com/EnDuralast_Starter_BMW_R_Airhead_8_Tooth_Drive_p/bmw-str1m.htm I just ordered one and will keep all updated on how it lasts. It's going on my winter /5 which gets ridden t...
