Re: San Jose fork brace: what the heck do I have?
I don't know the compele and technical history, but for practical purposes, they are the same. Back in the 70s, people referred to San Jose BMW when talking about these performance upgrades.

Re: San Jose fork brace: what the heck do I have?
Dug out more literature, circa 1976-80, and remembered that my father's R75/6 had a SJ brace--it was two hoops independent of each other. In other words, there is no flat sheet of bar stock connecting them like the one in your photo. I have the SJ instructions still, and it shows the same thing: two...

Re: San Jose fork brace: what the heck do I have?
I have several old SJ catalogs. The one from '83 states: "Please specify year and model." The one from '93 lists three different models as follows: CC Twin Fork Braces /6 model #31425-000-003 R90s to '80 #31425-000-004 '81-'84 Twins #31425-000-005 I might have earlier literature lying arou...

Re: Old Brake Lines
I don't know if it's a beef per se, but he does cite Earl's over Spiegler. Maybe he gets a better markup?

Re: Old Brake Lines
I would go with Earl's instead of Spiegler. Better quality accoring to Ted Porter.

Re: Source for Cadmium-plated Nuts?
Amazingly, Lowes' has cadmium-plated wave washers in 5, 6, sometimes 8, 10, and 12 mm, and most are marked "made in Germany." Unfortunately, their hex nuts are zinc plated and come from Asia.

Re: Centerstand fix for '84 R100?
Well, if 3 to 4 inches is the norm, then I guess I'm confused. Maybe that's because I'm comparing it to my monoshocker, which is much less?

Re: Centerstand fix for '84 R100?
Still have the orignal Boge, which I don't think have been modfied, but I will check. I retrofitted Wilburs (using their stock length springs) and the height issue is the same.

Re: Centerstand fix for '84 R100?
Hmmm . . . that's strange. The front wheel of my bike has a much larger gap. I wonder if I've got a different than stock sidestand? That's the problem with being the fourth owner--one never knows the complete history of the bike. Maybe I can take photos of the stand, and we can compare it to yours?

Centerstand fix for '84 R100?
Once again, an ancient topic discussed at length in the old Phorum. As I understand it, the problem with '84s is different than the earlier Eighties bikes: the centerstand requires lifting the bike too high in order to get it up on the stand. Consquently, either wheel is far higher than it really ne...
