Re: Can't get neutral when hot
It's been a few years since I've had a bike but I remember switching to a heavier oil to solve hot tranny shifting problems in one of my airheads. I'm thinking I went to a 90w140, or something in that range.

Re: Best oil for my airhead
If you have any issues with shifting when the gearbox gets warmed up, use something like 80w140. It made a definite improvement on my ol' R75.

Re: Intermittent Ignition woes
Having a cylinder fire when turning off the key is normal with an electronic ignition on these bikes, so don't worry about that, it has nothing to do with your problem. It sounds like you have a real gremlin to track down!

Re: Gen light
To make things easier, you really don’t need to mark all the wires before removing the stator. Just make sure when you put it back together that you don’t cross the 2 wires going to the brushes. One goes to ground, so they’re easy to figure out. It doesn’t matter what sequence the three 3-phase wire...

Re: Gen light
I’ve had a couple of rounds with my alternator. I’ve found that there are several things that will make the light stay on too long. Even too much carbon dust from brush wear will ground out the brush holders. What I’ve learned from my battles is before you start throwing money at a alternator....Fir...

Re: Repairing Electrical Connections
While we’re on the subject of soldering, I have an embarrassing question to ask. A few years ago I managed to mash the wires for the (Hall Effect) ignition sensor under the front engine cover, on my ‘88 RT. I attempted to solder the wires back together but couldn’t get the solder to stick to those w...

Re: starting problems
I didn't see where anyone mentioned that the fuel enrichners only work with the throttles closed. Don't give it any gas until it hits!

Re: Those pesky alternator brushes!
I managed to get the nuts off with just a straight 8mm wrench. I found out that wasn't going to work for getting them back on. I used a fairly heavy pair of needle nose pliers to tighten them back up. Those nuts were so difficult to get at, at first I tried desoldering the stator wires so I could re...

Those pesky alternator brushes!
I just had a bout with that dang alternator. I’ve come to believe that a very high percentage of those little alternator gremlins are directly caused by those pesky little brushes. Those things have to be right or you’re going to get a light. (Red trouble light, that is)! In my case, I finally deter...

Re: How the heck do you remove the bearing from a R100R whee
Duane I really don’t know where you get your information from? Over the years I’ve replaced many roller bearings from aluminum housings without using heat. A recent one was in a self-cleaning oil filter on a 3000 horsepower diesel. I can’t remember ever tearing one up. Most of the time they’re just ...
