Re: Carbs mounted level, or tilted?
Thanks everyone, for your input. BarryH makes a compelling point about having a straight throttle cable run. Taking it a bit further, I think a straighter cable run would result in a more accurate sync of the throttle plates from off-idle throughout the full speed range. Tilted inward it is!

Carbs mounted level, or tilted?
Similar problem to jwithers, but I didn't want to hijack his thread. Bike is a 1977 R100/7 that recently developed a stumble while transitioning from the idle circuit to the main jet. Last time this happened (8 years ago,), there was a blockage in the tiny idle transition circuits just behind the th...

A few questions, please?
1. Which shade of Rub 'n Buff did you use on the Yamaha cases. Is it a match for the BMW?
2. What did you use to clean up the exhaust parts?

Re: Light switch
Full power for the headlight still goes through the 'dipper' switch in the perch so no benefit in saving the contacts or avoiding the usual voltage drop. I still don't know why it is there Some of the quirks of these machines suggest to me the era and the national heritage of the manufacturer. For ...

I'd happily wait a few days or even a few weeks for this board to come back before using Yahoo Groups. In fact, I'd even consider migrating to a different airhead message board. Signing onto it requires accepting cookies, after which they place a huge amount of trackers (analytics, beacons and widge...

Don't forget to change your fuel lines. The rubber may be flaking from the inside. Ask me how I know.

Re: New Front Brake Pads Are Squeaky
I recently replaced the front brake pads on my 1977 R100/7 and they squeak like crazy. They are actually worse when not being applied so i'm guessing I have too much drag... Just a thought.... If the eccentric bolt at the base of the caliper was not adjusted properly, the outer brake pad would not ...

Re: jointed filters
I've run out of my one piece BMW filters. I picked up one that is jointed in the middle, and connects together with rubber(ish) fittings. There has to be less filtering media, and more constriction of oil flow. Are these filters a problem? I must know. Tell me the whole truth, nothing but the...

Just a thought.
Hey, that's an idea. How about a box inside a larger box with a barrier of spray-foam insulation, like Great Stuff. It just doesn't take much momentum to defeat any amount of padding except custom molded styrofoam.
Just a thought.
