Needle Jet/Jet Needle Replacement ?

Quick question. 15k miles since my last carb rebuild. At 15k, would you replace the jet needles and needle jets? I searched but couldn't find a recommended time frame. While the jet needles have some discoloration, I could not feel a ridge with my fingernail.

Re: Crankshaft sprocket removal question.

My advice is to mark the new sprocket on the outside where the grove is for the woodruff key. That way you can quickly and easily orient the sprocket properly.

Re: R80 Mono Caliper Alignment V2.0

I should be OK with shaving the spacer, the way Mono front wheel spindles work it is drawn in from one end while the other is left slack to slide through the other leg until it is all snugged up, then the fork lower is clamped down to the spindle. I think it'll work, I'll give it a coat of looking ...

Re: R80 Mono Caliper Alignment V2.0

Mono calipers are in front of the leg - always. It was the Brembo fitted twin shocks where the calipers moved to the rear. So that's not it! It is possible it has been assembled wrong sided, but then the caliper would not fit, I don't think.....I'm pretty sure the calipers are handed. I do wonder i...

Re: R80 Mono Caliper Alignment V2.0

Can you post a picture of the brake set and disc? They say pictures paint a 1,000 words. I'm no expert, but every 80's BMW I've seen has drilled front rotors, so I wonder if the disc is correct--could be wrong here. Without photos for reference, I'm just throwing out some ideas. I don't know if this...

Re: petcock spring

Also, thanks for the spring offer, but yeah here in Seattle. (BarryH) I know how difficult that spring can be to compress (I worked on a '72 R75 last year). I said I never wanted to open one again 😅. I think I have the leak stopped for now. I aligned the high (pointed) end of the spring with the le...

Re: 1982 R100RT Replacing Headlight with LED

If you're looking to upgrade your headlight to LED, here's an option. It's a smaller headlamp with an adaptor ring. I have not installed one, so I can't comment on the product other than it exists. http://www.motoelekt.com/lighting.htm

Re: Monoshock Rear Brake Light Switch R&R

Well, I can confirm that there is insufficient access to remove and replace the rear brake light switch with just removing the rear wheel and dropping the swing are as far down as possible after removing the shock. It appears that either the swing arm needs to be removed or the rear black plastic fe...

No, each side cover has a screw at the bottom to keep them secure.
