Re: Beatrice runs but needs some love
A compression test would tell you if something is up with either rings or valves. Make sure the throttle is open when you test compression. Anything over 125 is decent, though 140 would be nice. I had 140 once, not any more.

Re: Hole in shaft boot
Try Shoe Goo. It's great stuff. Fixed a rip in my back rest.

I suppose you could read them some accounting text books.

Re: Some improvement after new rear brakes installed
I took the rear wheel off again and examined the brakes. There seemed to be wear on most of the brake shoe surface. What I did notice is that the travel of the brake pedal (2 or 3 inches until the pedal contacts the exhaust pipe) results in 2-4 millimeters of shoe expansion when the brake cam rotate...

Re: Some improvement after new rear brakes installed
I had no idea that just popping in a new set of brakes shoes would not simply take care of the problem. I'll check the shoe castings, though I would hope that EBC knows how to make shoes. I've put on a few miles, so maybe I can see where the contact is on the shoes. I'll look into radius cutting. Ge...

Re: Some improvement after new rear brakes installed
The term I have heard before is wait for the shoes to "bed in". So in a few thousand miles, the shoes may wear to fit the arc of the drum and have more contact. I'll see how this goes. Thanks for the advice. By the statement , "I don't think it could be a worn brake drum since the bra...

Some improvement after new rear brakes installed
installed a nice new set of EBC rear brake shoes. I adjusted the brake adjustment and pedal adjustment as Duane Ausherman says to, http://w6rec.com/duane/bmw/rear_brake/. The brake adjustment is set to just start to have a bit of drag when the wheel is spun. When I press the pedal all the way down, ...

Re: Windshield Height
It also depends on the look you want. I have a short windscreen that is very unobtrusive. I experimented with leaning it back and forward and found putting it mostly vertical worked best.

Re: What to do about rear brake?
Hmmm. The JC Whitney link is for a 1977 R80/7. When I change the year in the parts selector to 1978, the page says the brakes do not fit my vehicle. I was not aware that there was a difference. If I entered 1978 R/100 the website says the brake is fine to order. But not for a '78 R80/7. I can go to ...

Well then,
That's what I'll do.
The JC Whitney ones look ok.
Thanks everyone!
