Rallye des Elefants

Those Blitz videos reminded me of this French docu full of /2 bikes and sidecar rigs heading to the Rallye des Elefants-

Should be more geezer-friendly, although it's not in English.

Re: /5 /6 and /7 Airhead Design Blunders

. What were they thinking when they designed the sidestand? Hard to deploy and does not securely support the bike. The '78 R100/7 I used to own ("The Mule") fell over one morning while idling in the driveway on the sidestand as I was putting on my helmet, getting ready to go to work. I ha...

Re: Elementary question - leaky carbs

It's called Gates Barricade fuel line. I googled it to find an auto parts store that carried it. A store eleven miles away was listed so I called and they said they had it. When I got there, they didn't have it. They checked on their computer and told me another Car Quest store had it. They couldn'...

Re: Elementary question - leaky carbs...fixed!

[quote="Chuey") I had recently read about some ethanol resistant fuel line from Gates. I bought some of that. We'll see how it lasts. The other stuff didn't last long. I had it on my black R100CS replica and it went bad on that bike as well. Will be replacing all the lines on that bike soo...

Re: caffeinated

For those of you who may have grown too old and too fat to "assume the position" – Recall that flat bars and 1/4 fairings exist as substantial evidence of BMW's involvement with "Cafe" style ... Journalists of the times often referred to the R90S as "The first production ca...

Re: R65LS ergonomics...

My LS viewed from the behind- http://i1110.photobucket.com/albums/h445/photogodot/P1010193.jpg LS riding position (with low bars) is more comfortable for me, even at 6'1", than my old R100T. I had both high bars and the low euro bars on that R100 and never quite got it right. I think the combin...

Re: Remember my "Interesting Bike" thread?

I think it's a good bike for one-up touring. I agree. And I ain't got no Windjammer, just the dinky plastic pseudo fairing on the LS. I wouldn't think it'd matter much, but I know there's a small power difference between the 79/80 R65s and the 81 and up versions, in addition to the clutch and ignit...

Re: Monologue

And here's hoping you never have to take that fairing apart to get at the instruments, DanielMc. I'd like to murder the twit at BMW who came up with those plastic tabs that lock the lower piece into the upper piece. Total pain in the ass! Last Spring I got to witness some folks struggling to fix a ...

Re: Monologue

Nice bike. What is an LS and why can't it handle the miles? Chuey http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2795/4424296499_dcab2ca12d_z.jpg Just me being dumb Chuey - the LS was a facelift model for the rather staid looking R65, and featured the slightly hotter engine too if I recall. Designed by Target Stud...
