Re: Cylinder bore - Main jetting
Welcome, Bjoern! When you overhauled your carbs, did you check or replace the rubber diaphragms in the top of your carbs? If there are any holes or tears in those parts (pretty common if they're more than a few years old), the "hesitation" you describe at higher speeds can result.

Re: R100 vs R65
Your R65's engine has Nikasil bores, which will last longer, if you pile on the miles. That vintage of R100 has iron-lined bores that will require reboring or replacement by 150K miles, or so. May not matter if you don't ride a lot. The R100 has a nicer, "traditional" look, IMHO. But older...

Re: Cleaning an old master cylinder
No personal experience, Veg, but I think one correct answer is probably "clean brake fluid". It may not be the most effective solvent, but any residue left from its use presumably won't mess with the rest of the brake system when you button it back together.

Re: 77 R100/7 BarnStorm
There shouldn't be oil migration between the transmission, driveshaft, and final drives; there are seals between them that may need to be replaced in your case. The final drive should have about 350cc's in it; the driveshaft should only have 100-150cc's when it's properly filled, with the gaskets an...

Re: 77 R100/7 BarnStorm
That's a nice-looking bike, at least on a computer screen. The body work, paint (it looks like Porsche "Guards Red"--a popular repaint scheme back in the day), handlebar, valve covers, /5 rear turn signal pods, and broken head fins are not OE 100/7, so it may have been crashed and reassemb...

Clean them; they'll be an easier sell if you eventually decide to do so.

Re: Springbar Tents
From their website, they'd look like a fine supplier for the military in extended bivouac, FEMA, or the UNHCR. I wouldn't tote a tent made of 14.7oz. canvas on a motorcycle trip.

This is an '89, guys----no OE points ever involved. Resistor caps are recommended; resistor plugs are not. As usual, Snowbum has a treatise http://bmwmotorcycletech.info/Ignition.htm

Re: '95 R100RT Hard Starting?? Needs choke for several minut
I'd probably start with half a bottle of Chevron Techron (or BMW's own fuel system cleaner, reported to be a concentrated version of Techron) into two successive full tanks of fresh gas, to see if that cleans out any gunk in the carb passages. A pretty cheap experiment---$7 at your local auto parts ...

Re: Getting My '83 R100RT Up On Center Stand Difficult
Yes, your '83's stand looks a tad worn. The monoshock's center stand is much wider and more stable, and its splayed "feet" will make it much easier to step onto the left foot to lift the bike onto the stand. The later stand does not, unfortunately, transplant to/fit the earlier twin-shock ...
