Re: Monolever fork stiction
That's not "pictures." I looked that up too. He said that's not what he has. Either he didn't understand us, or that's not what he has. Pictures OF HIS BIKE would tell us exactly what he has.

Re: 71 R50/5 upgrade to 600 cc?
Oh, and I would expect the R50 heads to have far too small a combustion chamber for the larger pistons - especially the R75/R90, so it would probably yield an unacceptably high compression ratio.

Re: 71 R50/5 upgrade to 600 cc?
Cams are different. Some may have used the (milder) R50 cams with a larger motor. That cam has both less overlap and a little less lift. R60, R75, and R90 cylinders/pistons bolt right up. '76 and later have larger spigot external diameters, and thus require machining either cases or cylinders to fit...

Re: Input shaft spline grease
I've heard people swear by both Yamaha Moly grease and Honda 60. The Honda 60 has been superseded by Honda M77.

Re: Monolever fork stiction
So did I. That's why my first comment was that Duane's site probably didn't apply. But, he says that's what he has.ME 109 wrote: I thought mono's had a heavier top brace and not the 4mm thick top plate like my 81?
Maybe we need some pictures....
What am I saying, we ALWAYS need pictures!

Re: Monolever fork stiction
Ah, pxc, if you have the flat top plate, then yes indeed the instructions on Duane's site apply, and your problem is being caused by the fact that your forks are not properly aligned.

Re: Monolever correct tire pressures
Found this. Nice reference point for the monolever models at least. Still they're almost 30 year old recommendations..have the tyres changed that much since then? http://i1338.photobucket.com/albums/o684/boxerboy81/boxerboy81028/3.%20monolever%20tyre%20pressures._zpspecazfna.jpg That's not a "...

Re: Monolever fork stiction
I know nothing about the monolever except what applies to the twin shock models. However you have identified the way to do it that works for your bike in your second description. So my ignorant question is, does it matter which way if you get it right anyhow? I'm not him, but yes, it matters. The f...

Re: Monolever fork stiction
The bouncing before tightening the pinch bolts is BMWs recommended method of ensuring the axle is centered. Tighten the axle nut first, then bounce. It helps if the axle is rust free and greased. If it ain't broke... His point is that it only avoids stiction if he does NOT tighten the axle first, t...

Re: Oil Level (Not an Oil Thread)
Finally had the guts to fill the /6 with Mobil 1 V twin oil. All the seals on the old motor had been replaced. My perception is that I am using less oil. Totally unsubstantiated logic is that it foams less therefore blows less out the vent. Anyway the good news is it isn't leaking from every engine...
