yes Jo wants to book some 1/2 day boat ride up the Gordon. I expect most of Tassie is good, maybe I should ask if there is anywhere to NOT waste my time on. Also looking for a good ol' motorcycle friendly pub in the mountains, if I can imagine it, it must exist.

I don't know what I am doing when I get back to Melbourne. Make my way back home I guess (work work ..) I see you said maybe a get together the weekend after, if there was something definite I might take some more leave and find something to do for the week.

It reads like the weekend of 10, 11, 12 April is a done deal. So if you have the option grab some more leave and give the Victorian roads some quality time. I may well be free to meet up somewhere south of here during the week. We'll sort that closer to the time.

Right now trying to sort electrickery problems so I can go for a ride. I finally fitted alloy blinkers on the back and in the process have managed to lose both the brake light and all the flashers.

I figured I must have fried the ($90+!!) relay but .... no, if I provide it with a direct +ve feed from the battery the blinkers flash like they are supposed to. Getting good voltage at the input according to me multimeter ... so ... wtf

I hate wiring problems! Even worse dealing with the sea grasses inside the headlight shell, fuses live down there that have ne'er seen the light o' day.

Charlie is right re the highway down the guts is rather bland all the rest are nice, be careful though the advisory speed
signs can be a bit out. Good passes are Hellyers on the west and Elephant on the east. Do the Macquarie Hbr boat trip it's
well worth it, if you can afford it the flight/day trip to Bathurst Hbr is an excellent day out.
A good day trip from Hobart is west through New Norfolk and Maydena to Strathgordon, be careful, the road can be
damp and sometimes even mossy on the edges.There's a dirt road about 2/3 out that goes south to the south of Lake
Pedder if it's not to wet.
Warm clothes and wet weather gear are a must, been to Cradle Mtn twice and still have'nt seen it, light rain and
low clouds often. Mount Wellington is worth the ride on a fine day.

I think your switched and fused positive power (prolly green with black stripe) is not getting through, and the fuse is the best place to start looking. See if you have 12V on both sides of the fuse with ignition on. You may just need to give the fuse a twist to get it to make contact again, but I recommend going with this arrangement for both, using 10A blade fuses:



The fuses can then live above the rat's nest and their state can be seen with a quick glance.

ps: If the above doesn't help, give me a shout and I'll make some other wild guesses.

Thanks for the tip Charlie, top fuse was indeed blown and I was wondering how to change things to make 'em accessible. Cheers, that looks simple enough even for me.

Great inspirational pics Bob. I found Hellyers on the map and had it picked as a place to go, just on how the roads snakes back on itself. Will hunt down the rest on your recommend. Hope to catch up en-route. Cheers

Mal, it's been 25 years since I was in Tassie and that was in a car. I can't remember much about the roads, except coming out of Queenstown was a lunar experience!



I've recently heard the roads there described as magic, which is the common description. However, they were also described as treacherous. To qualify, whoever it was that was doing the talking, was talking about a lack of consistency in road design. He felt there was little attention given to the constant radius of tight corners that we come to expect in Victoria and it almost caught him out a few times. So, beware corners that tighten up more than you expect as you may see the edge of the road closer than you'd prefer. Unsure how widespread his claim is/was?

Maybe Bob could qualify the comment?

Totally agree Steve that is somewhat along the line as to the advisory speed signs that I mentioned.
Don't trust the road until you've been over it once or twice after that they're great.

Bob, good recommendations . I've been to Tas multiple times but always with only a few days to spend . I really look forward to have a few weeks to tour at a more liesurely pace !
