Turn signals cancel from vibes

Post by Gibson »

Hello all, on my 94 R100R, left signal will cancel when stopped from vibration. Anybody have this problem? Only appears to happen at idle where it shakes the most. I checked all bulbs and sockets and tightened them up, but still does it. Ill be taking a trip in early June to Blue Ridge & would like to figure this out before I go...Thanks.

Can't believe vibration should be that bad. When's the last time you did a carb synch and balance?

Either your bike has too much vibration, or your detente on the switch is so worn it moves on it's own.

My bike is in top tune. These bikes have a little normal rocking at idle. My bike idles very reliable and smooth at 1100 rpm. It just does not take much to cancel the signals apparently. The 90's signal switch set up is a little different than the earlier set ups. There is a switch on each side to activate signals. They are cancelled by another switch on the right side. There is no detente. I thought someone with a late model may have had this issue...

Maybe there is a broken spring in the switch allowing the contacts to move too much. The question becomes which switch is causing the fault, if it were the cancel side why just the left side unless there is a contact for each side. If you take a switch apart, do it in a plastic see through bag, parts fly everywhere when opened up.

As an aside have you tried flushing the switches with contact cleaner?

Gibson,
Don't have an answer to your question and I've never had that problem with my Mystic. This bike has a single cancel button for both left and right, so if you are only having the problem with one side, I assume it's not the cancel button or the cancel circuit. Maybe in the flasher itself. Unfortunately they are rather expensive to just replace.

Btw. The Blue Ridge is worth riding, but during "season" you'll get stuck behind a lot of motor homes and trailers. There are plenty of other roads in the area worth riding. You may want to ride down on Skyline and the Blue Ridge but back on other routes. Enjoy.

Cool, Thanks. I noticed yesterday that both sides are doing the self cancel thing. It appears to happen at idle maybe because the voltage is lower. Something electronic, but at least not the switches. I guess the flasher cube is all that is left?

Thanks Seth for the advice about Blue Ridge. I am going early June. Hoping for not too much traffic...that's what I'm trying to get away from.

re: BRP - yeah, 45 MPH gets a little boring after a while.
