Hey all, couple of questions regarding front wheel bearing removal on 1986 R80RT.
First off anyone got any creative ways to remove without specialist puller? I have tried tapping out but inner sleeve prevents any purchase on Bearing.
Also once they are out the manual says to heat hub to 100 deg before installing new bearings but warns to remove brake disc? Is this necessary? If so are the discs Riveted or heat shrunk onto hub? (can tell the difference) One side is domed and the other just a blank face pin...
Thanks in advance
Regards

Re: Front wheel Bearing Removal 1986
I would heat the hub to remove the bearing too.
I was able to tap the bearing out of a warm hub, but I had to grind the end of a old screwdriver to fit
If the book says remove the disk it would probably take less time to do than it took to post the question, so just do it the way that the factory manual tells you how - clue, there are bolts involved.
Loctite and others make a freeze spray, with a warm hub and a quick spray on the bearing some folks report that they just bang the hub down on a lump of wood and the bearing falls out.
Replacement is the same , warm hub and frozen bearing and they almost fall in.

Thanks appreciate the response. The image I've attached is the extent of the material I have on removal of bearings. I think I need to invest in a Clymer for a more detailed breakdown. As mentioned in the first post the discs are not bolted to the hub but pinned, assumably I can heat the disc and tap off the pins?

I have a 86 G/S , and the disk is riveted to a carrier, and the carrier is bolted to the hub.
My mistake if your hub does not have a separate carrier - I have never seen one that way.

Well thats embarrassing, I was so focussed on the rivets I didn't even notice the bloody bolts. What an idiot....
Cheers that clears that up.....
