Need some info -
1 - Are you SURE that you reconnected all the ground and power wires when you disconnected the battery?
2 - Same question for the coil bracket and area around it?
3 - Does your bike have a headlight on/park/off switch on the left handlebar or is the headlight always on when the ignition is on ?
4 - Was your high/low beam working correctly before this occurred?

just a quick check, run a jumper wire from a solid engine ground to the brown wire on the headlight plug and then connect the bulb and see what happens

could you post a pic or two of the inside of your headlight?

hmmm, I resemble that remark.

Should I chime in?

I can fix it if from here if you have a test light, a multimeter(volt/ohm), a bunch of jumper wires and a wiring diagram.
Ah sorry, GSPD ol' chap. I was forgetting that you were back from your sabbatical. Please jump right in and save this bloke from setting fire to his bike.

Waiting for pics of inside the headlight.
These problems are so easy in person, a bit harder remotely....

Questions in the mean time...
with a test light, ignition ON
1- Is there power at the white wire of the headlight plug with high beam on?
2 - Is there power at the yellow wire of the headlight plug with the low beam on?
3 - Do either of the above tests activate the starter?
4 - Does jumping the white to the yellow activate the starter?

I think have to buy a new ignition before I move on
I started your tests ----power at low beam
flip the switch to high beam and the starter kicks in
flip it back and it stops
put key in the off position and the starter kicks in
on plug the white wire from the ignition stops the starter

I never had so much fun

The white wire is probably the hot to the high beam by the usual DIN color coding. Why is it attached to the ignition? It should only go to the light relay.
Call me Mel. Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me at home, I thought I would ride about a little and see the other parts of the world.

Everything worked when I pick this up
I didn't think to look inside the head light
when I got it-- all I can do work with it
I have other bikes to work on
I need a break from this one
so this one goes in the corner for now
So this story is on hold till I get more parts

Thank you for your time and help
