Howdy, I'm back.

Post by daz »

Picked up a 1980 R100 today. Dang, just threw away all my Air Mail mags. Most of the names have not changed here.
First thing I'm looking for is maybe a tutorial or even a video for rebuilding the forks specifically on the 1980 R100. It is an R100. Not a T or C or RT. I actually don't know the difference between the T or C. Help there? Thank you.

I've seen the breakdown somewhere but can't locate it. I suspect you have version one. My Haynes lists forks for the following periods:

- up to 1980 (likely your bike)
- 1981-1984
- R45 and R65s
- basically 1985-on

If your manual has those breakdowns, that should tell you what you should do.

Kurt! That would be same as my /5 R50. But this thing has dual disks. Number by the dip stick is 6170694. Frame is 6170694.
Probable vin: 944566 Title says vins is 9445662471f2p1. Also stamped is 247/f2p1

So they prolly thought the forward slash was a one. 247 is frame type.
So Kurt, when I order parts can I order for an RT, or a C, or a T? Or what? See where I'm coming from? I can not picture these other bikes. Primarily I've owned RTs here in Ohio.

Version one /5 would be the same as this dual disk version?

I've just ridden this blue bike. Man it is sweet!

I don't think rebuilding the forks has much to do with drum versus disk brakes. It's about what's inside. As for parts, where are you going to get them from? Dealer should be able to provide you what you need with your VIN. But I read Tom Cutter's comments so much on the ABC Airlist, I'd be inclined to call him and get a kit from him. He's a road racer and BMW trained mechanic. I'm sure you'd be satisfied knowing you got the right stuff. My 0.02.

gspd, I actually started out at Max parts fiche. Plenty of R100s listed but not just plain old R100. And that is what prompted my original post. Is there an R100 slash T? or is that listing for the R100 AND R100 T. Sorry for all the trouble due to my ignorance! Max lists my R100 using my serial number as R100/T. Anyway, I'm not going to fret about this any longer. I will take Kurt's advice and check out Tom Cutter for this fork information and parts.
Thanks!
