So I can't get the Bridgestone S11's I've enjoyed for many years. What would be a good replacement. I don't need super long wear, so it would be nice to get more grip. Any suggestions?

Love my Michelin Pilot Actifs! Available in the 'inch' sizes. I'm on my third set. 8K miles would be more than you should expect from the rear.
Call me Mel. Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me at home, I thought I would ride about a little and see the other parts of the world.

I have been very happy with Avon Road rider V rated tires. Great all around performance and ride both wet and dry.
