1982 R65: Stopper for Center Stand

Post by EMH »

I'm replacing an old style stand (pre-1982) center stand with a version that came out somewhere in the 1982 run (the initial R65 production was 1979-84). There are some differences: (a) The old stand was designed to accept a "follow plate" that allowed for shorter springs than the new design; (b)the "tang" is different; (c)there is a square metal piece at the end of the left center stand leg (deployed against the ground by one's foot) to allow for easier engagement of the stand when swinging the bike up onto it. Also, the new stand was designed to take a "stopper" (part# 2351403457) see http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=46&fg=10

My question -- Where does this stopper go? Where is it properly mounted on the bike. Pictures anyone?

Thanks,

Erik

Around the frame, gear change side. It stops the stand from hitting the frame when it's up. You can work the correct position out according to where the stand may touch the frame. btw, avoid using the foot piece to hoik the bike up. Use it to deploy the stand down, then move your foot to the stand proper. Then bring the bike up onto it. It'll survive much longer that way.
