Mounting a RS fairing bracket
Mounting a RS fairing bracket
OK, I know I asked this question a couple of forums ago, but I can't find a reference to it in the archives. I'm mounting a aftermarket fairing on my '74 R90/6 using a stock BMW RS fairing bracket. Is the mounted centered top to bottom on the headstock tube? Any photos of where the bracket mounts and clues as to cable routing would be much appreciated. Thanks!

How about this?

Yep, thanks Jeff, that's the photo I was thinking of! Looks like it's mounted a bit high of center. Which cable is that coming through the hole ?
Re: Mounting a RS fairing bracket
Hope this helps Tim.
The bracket is removed (S fairing) but this shows the bolts.
I will take some measurements shortly.

Doug, could you measure from the top of the fork stop to the center of the bottom mounting bolt? I have a feeling it's the same location as the bottom rivet of the ID plate...dougie wrote:Hope this helps Tim.

Re: Mounting a RS fairing bracket
My frame is an '87 Monolever - don't know if that makes a difference.
I could not get all the way in with either a ruler or caliper so used a school compass then measured off the compass.
1) Bottom of steering head to centre of lower bolt is 61mm (or close to it).

2) Top of steering stop to centre of lower bolt is 38mm (or close to it).

Re: Mounting a RS fairing bracket
Thanks for the effort, Doug, but I am noticing the bottom cup that holds the bearing race on the Monolever is a different design than the /6. Anyone else care to take a measurement like in the second photo Doug posted?dougie wrote:My frame is an '87 Monolever - don't know if that makes a difference.

I'm not sure if it's going up through the hole or down through it
