The English is a poor translation from German. What they mean is that they have modified the cylinder foot of the 1000cc cylinders to fit the early 97mm blocks. There is a better pic here: http://www.bmwbayer.de/index.php?page=product&info=54
Edit: click on the English flag on the right.

Re: Motoren Israel Sale ends December 24
No mods to your block. I've got a spare 1971 R60/5 block in my garage. The new 1000cc cylinder fits perfectly in the 97mm spigot. This kit simply upgrades you to a 1000cc bike (with light weight pistons). You need a stock 308 cam and probably some jetting changes depending on the carbs you're running.jjwithers wrote:It says a modification at the cylinder foot is required but the same head should work. What kind of modification? Boring it out a bit more? Will bigger carbs be needed?
I'm going with a 336 cam, R90/6 42/40 heads, dual plugging, 38mm Delortos, an 83 tranny with the light clutch, a crank mounted ignition, and titanium valve retainers.
I've been collecting parts for the last 4 years. I may mill the heads a little and notch the valve pockets for a little more compression. We'll see how things measure up when it's put together.

and have Nicksil........... OH BOY!!!
No worries there, as mine is rebuilt to 900cc with about 15,000 with a good gear box I don't need to go after the sale
Recenty installed the SWB parts on it and getting ready to install the drive bolts and finish tighting the bolts.
sourceing a Seat, I used a R65 surbrame with a 1973 SWB swingarm and have the 1977 R100 tank, no seats in BMW speak maybe have to make a custom seat....................

Unfortunately nobody sells a 900cc Nikasil kit. I thought about going to R90S pistons to get more compression http://www.motoren-israel.com/products/ ... -2-St.html, but the allure of the close tolerances, light weight, excellent heat transfer, and indestructability of Nikasil won out. This is the only kit available that works with pre 75 R90's.http://www.motoren-israel.com/products/ ... -1975.htmlMotorhead wrote:ME 109 wrote:...........you'll need to upgrade your brakes again Lyman!Motorhead wrote:YOU! mean to say I can up my /5 to 1000cc with out boreing the case?

Re: Motoren Israel Sale ends December 24
I have a kit that is purported to be made to put 1000cc into a 97mm case. I bought it (used) when I was working on my R90S project. I changed directions about the time it arrived in the mail so I haven't even checked it out yet. How do I tell if it's Nikasil? It is German, I think I recall that it's made by Kolbenschmidt.

You can clearly see the steel liner. Check the bore with a magnet, if it sticks it's steel/iron if not it's Nikasl.Chuey wrote:I have a kit that is purported to be made to put 1000cc into a 97mm case. Actually the Power kits manufactured by Sieberock (also sold by Motoren Israel, Eurotech & BMW Bayer) use Italian Gilardoni cylinders (at least, that's who casts them). I believe the pistons are Kolbenschmidt, but there are no markings.Chuey wrote:I have a kit that is purported to be made to put 1000cc into a 97mm case. Like Garnet says, you can clearly see the brown colored iron liners on non-Nikasil cylinders. No liners at all on Nikasil, just an invisible coating on the aluminum. Much lighter, and not magnetic.

Re: Motoren Israel Sale ends December 24
Chuey, when you bought your kit was there any instructions or mention about what heads should be used with those pistons?
Just wonderin.

Re: Motoren Israel Sale ends December 24
I will try to find them and check them out on New Year's day. I bought them used so I doubt they have instructions. By the time they arrived, I had changed my mind and was on my way to another engine. Didn't even open the box.
