gearbox lever question...

#7 in the diagram.
Diagram shows the ball (on #8) as removeable from #7 in the same way as with #4.
On my gearbox that ball is nicely riveted to #7. It looks original.
Is that normal or did I get a factory freak?

Could it be an after market connector?
My 81 has a wire and clip type connector, I'm not sure what year the threaded adjuster was introduced.

Don't think so. My linkage is just like #8 above. And it has those cute little wire clips to keep the balls in their sockets.
I am trying to test a spare gearbox which is missing the ball connector but has the lever. I will just use a short pipe for now.

It's just for an indoor test for crunchy sounds and to see if it shifts properly with the engine running. Then I will know I have an option if mine blows up.

The missing ball socket 'thinymajig' may be the same size as on the steering damper unit.
I have one here.........you wanna come an' get it? Does yours have a steering damper?
Make sure you remove the little wire clip before pulling the socket off the ball.

Yeah I would love to come and get it. Will be waiting for a ticket in the mail
No steering damper on Monolever bikes.
I tested the spare box. It shifted okay up and down, no ugly noises, neutral switch works, so it's going in a box on a shelf. I'll worry about the details if/when I need it.

Yeah, south enough to escape the current flooding in Queensland and northern New South Wales, although we did have flooding in my area (southern New South Wales)in the last couple of months. My house was unaffected.
The last few years we've been watering the garden from October (early spring) but this year I watered the first time on the last day of December. We also had 40c in October a couple of times over the last few years but we haven't had 40 yet this summer.
Quite a remarkable turnaround.

Trouble is, it's generally too hot to do any distance on the RS. Summer is no longer the preferred season to ride for me. The rest of the year is quite ridable.

A spare box would be nice to have. I've been lucky with the one I have. Somewhat rebuilt about twelve years ago, it's done exceptionally well to endure my riding style.
I changed the oil in it about 3 months ago and the magnetic drain plug showed just a bit of black slime.
