/5 battery install

I am replacing the battery in my 60/5, and was wondering if there is an easier way to install it than as shown in the manuals? Any input would be appreciated!

That depends, SWB or LWB.

On a SWB you can usually replace the battery by removeing the top bolts of the subframe (with the bike on the centre stand), this allows the frames to split an inch or two allowing enough room for the battery. This works on the later /6 and /7s but I have never done it on a LWB /5 so I'm not sure if it works there.

Yes, it works on my LWB slash five. I just back out the two top sub-frame bolts, but leave them in the holes so that the sub-frame stays in place. I also undo the top bolts to the battery tray to let it pivot a bit. I am running a small battery in my slash five, so probably have the say clearance as a short wheel base.

Not sure if the same as the /5, but on my /7 I usually undo the rubber bumpers below the battery tray to allow even more tilt to get the battery to slide out. I tend to run the full-size slosh batteries so I need all the help I can get.

Appropriately sized batteries slip right into my SWB R60's battery holder from above. SWB batteries are a differnt spec from later bikes taking into account the 1 1/2" shorter drive line. I don't undertand the issue.

well, I ordered the yuasa that was spec'd for the bike on their website. I removed the sub frame bolts and it's still too tight.the manuals say to remove the side cover and air filter housing.Seems like a lot but it might be best.

I always used to remove the air cleaner housing and side cover. Now I have a small gel battery that saves a lot of work.

Get it out easy as pie !
Otherwise, access will be about taking some stuff apart ...
whatever might be necessary.

After-market batteries often are not the exact same physical dimensions as the OEM item
even as they will fulfill the electrical need –
Consequently, installation and removal may vary from the manual procedure ...
On early stock bikes, I liked to get to it from the air-box end as "the path of least resistance".

Yep,no shortcuts. Taking things apart easier than trying to shoehorn it in. thanks for the input,
