Has any of you successfully used regular black spray paint to paint brake calipers? I'll get some specific brake caliper paint if it is much better but it would be easier if I can use regular Rustoleum.

Painting brake calipers
Re: Painting brake calipers
I really intended to paint my caliper, but the caliper specific paint I got seems like it's supposed to look good seen through blurred wheel spokes at highway speed on a riced-out Civic. It did not meet my aesthetic expectations. The caliper specific paints are supposed to be resistant to brake fluid, Krylon or Rustoleum not so much.Chuey wrote:Has any of you successfully used regular black spray paint to paint brake calipers? Call me Mel. Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me at home, I thought I would ride about a little and see the other parts of the world.
Re: Painting brake calipers
I just looked at a Plasti-kote catalouge and they claim their paint is good for 900 deg F, but say nothing about brake fluid. Reg enamel is good for 500.

Re: Painting brake calipers
I have painted the calipers on my car using POR15 caliper paint. It was fine for that application, but probably a bit rough for a motorcycle application. I know that this is a common item to have powder coated.Chuey wrote:Has any of you successfully used regular black spray paint to paint brake calipers? Most autoparts stores sell a caliper paint spray paint. You might want to give it a go. Try it on some test metal first.
It would be a bummer to have your new paint messed up the first time you bleed your brakes. Or maybe you will be neat enough the first few times....but then there will be that one time when you are not:)
Re: Painting brake calipers
...I'd think it would be worth the use 'caliper paint' if it comes in the color you want. Alot of these specialized off the shelf paints are somewhat limited.
Dupli-color may be what you're referring to. I used their 'wheel coating' on my calipers cuz that's what I had on hand.
I really doubt there's much diff between the Duipolicolor wheel coat and the Duplicolor caliper paint, but who knows.
No problems so far, but I don't intend to slosh brake fluid allover them...here's hopin'...

Re: Painting brake calipers
NICE job on those calipers.
I've spent most of my money on women, motorcycles, and beer.
The rest of it I just wasted.
