I look at the fourth picture down in the ad and wonder how the bike got so much blueing on the exhaust pipe in only 96 miles.

You can blue the pipes by letting the bike idle for too long in still air.

This bike looks far too weathered to have been indoors all it's life. Maybe it has covered 100,096 miles?

Look at the dials. The clear plastic looks to be sun affected. It has at least 100k on that bike. Either the owner has no idea about the sort of mileage airheads can do or he is trying it on.

Also why are the sidecovers mising? I took mine off becuase they can fly off when riding along.

There is a scratch on the fairing as well.

I never understand why so many people get their panties in a wad when some guy reckons he's selling a genuine low-mileage airhead. I'm currently working on a 44k mile mono so know what sort of wear a bike with that mileage shows, and the bike for sale looks pretty new to me - no marks on the disks, no rust on any of the subframe bolts, no scratches on the airbox, carbs and alloy clean etc. etc. It's covered with a few years worth of dust (as opposed to sun damage), and the blueing suggests the owner ran it from time to time but the covers were probably taken off to facilitate removing the battery. I'd really like to see a 100,000 mile bike that clean...

I heard similar whining on a UK forum a couple of years ago when I mentioned an ultra low-mileage R100RS that was for sale. Usual deafening bleat about fraudulent owner lying his head off to fool the public yada yada yada. I went to see it; the guy had bought the bike new in '82 but was a sailor in the merchant navy so was away at sea most of every year. He had every piece of paper, service record and consecutive MOTs proving the mileage was genuine.

Sometimes people tell the truth.

I was not whining, it was just an observation about the pipes. I took a lot more miles than that to blue my pipes even with my Triumph whose pipes would glow cherry red at cruising speeds.

I could care less if he is or is not misinformed about the mileage. I am not going to buy it either way. I just think the buyer should not be naive and should check it out very carefully.
