Haynes manual torque values

Post by Boertjie »

Hi All,

Page 111 wheel bearings give torque values 32.5-34.7 ft lb. Is this correct?

Thanks!

Can you be more specific as to what "wheel bearings" mean? My Haynes isn't page numbered that way (I probably have a different version) and mine doesn't have those numbers at all on the wheel torque page.

It's the pre-load values.

If you mean the large nut which holds the axle in place, my Haynes says 23-26 ft-lbs for a variety of modes - R65 '86-on, R80 and RT '85-on, R100RS/RT '87-on, various late models - I think these are the ones with an allen screws. For all others with the large nut take 33-37 ft-lbs.

Snowbum seems to have similar values in his Section 31/32:

Thanks Kurt, yes it is for the older bikes. My manual is for the bikes I think until 1980.

Their is more to it than a simple answer. Go to http://w6rec.com/duane/bmw/wheel_bearing/index.htm for more information. Protect your hub and learn more about this issue.
