The 2nd image that we are talking about has been "flipped", in a mirror-image sort of way.
See the final drive on the left side of the bike?

I've thought about how this backward image could be made ...
I even tried to match the results with every possible tool in Photostudio
including the edit / orientation / mirror function – no luck.
The only possibility (to my way of thinking)
is if a negative or transparency was used and inadvertantly "flipped" to create the image.
Actually, I have achieved this very result when presenting 35mm slide documentation of my artwork ...
Which will be why, 35mm slides are always imprinted on one side, "this side towards screen".

That was my first thought too, but the shifter looks to be in the right place...

Yeah, it could be, probly is. Kind of looks like a shifter linkage anyway. You're probably right about how the image was flipped.

Put one glove on your right hand. Look in a mirror. What hand is the glove on in the reflection?


Look at the "BMW" on the side of the motor. It's mirror image.

I dug out an old negative from when my R65 was nearly new.
My negative scanner software has a mirror image selection and produced these results:





But I tried it with a digital image taken this summer using the same Photoshop directions that Native/5 provided and achieved this result:



Electronic wizardry, I suppose.
