While browsing through one of my books I found this mechanical rendering of a BMW motor with gear driven valves. A "Rennsport". I never heard of this before. Looks like it would be kind of like a Ducati system but MUCH heavier.

If you have had this airhead obsession long enough, you will eventually find out about BMW's racing bikes.
They did especially well in sidecar racing.

That almost looks like something out of John Muir's (the other John Muir) How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive:

OK. And just how familiar are you with your pornography ?

Which of those pics are of engines actually built by BMW ?

Oh, me and pornography go way back...

I haven't a clue about the origins of those engines. I always thought the elite at BMW built them.

Yowza! Four valves, roller rockers, and a single lobe cam. I'm seeing "FM" (???) on the bellhousing???

In answer to your question, I believe the second, third, and fourth pix are of BMW origin. Second one is prewar?
Call me Mel. Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me at home, I thought I would ride about a little and see the other parts of the world.

I think my favorite part is the copper tubes for oil squirters.
