Somehow, I don't see BMW putting the exhaust in the back and the intake in the front.

Re: Rennsport motor
So where is the R100 version? What sort of power did these put out compared to stock engines of the time?

But K4V heads are pushrod-activated, not bevel driven !Tim Shepherd wrote:Gotcher R100 version right here: Krauser 4v headsmattcfish wrote:So where is the R100 version? What sort of power did these put out compared to stock engines of the time?

Design: Fritz von Apfelbeck, Fabrication: Werner Fallert. 1978
Featues: 4 valves, bevel drive, magnesium crankshaft housing crankshaft. 120 HP.

Turbocharged or kompressor ?

KOMPRESSOR it is !

Both above images are of a replica RS54 engine hand-built by Heinrich "Henry" Dirrigl.
Three were built. The pictured DOHC is owned by Tom Bridgers.
Dave Percival owns the other 2 (one a DOHC, the other a SOHC) that Henry built.

Re: Rennsport motor
I like the fact that no chains are used anywhere. Still trying to determine how the shafts to the heads are driven.
Is that roller bearings on the con rods? A few things could be updated, but I guess the question is, why didn't this sort of design go into production? Seems to be way ahead of it's time.

Re: Rennsport motor
There where several English bikes with bevel drive OHC, the Norton Inter (Manx) be the most famous. Ducati did it all through the 60s and 70s but had problems at high revs.mattcfish wrote: A few things could be updated, but I guess the question is, why didn't this sort of design go into production? Bevel drive is VERY expensive to build and re-build as there are many close tollerances that must be met.
