One way to do it is use a magura cable clutch/hydraulic clutch converter. This is designed primarily for off-road motorcycles: http://www.amazon.com/2003-2009-YAMAHA- ... B000MQ8FWW

Two failures with bikes that use a switch to go back and forth. Could there be a problem with this method of use?

I didn't use a switch. I had a separate wires for the condenser and the Omega. When mine died I was able to disconnect the wire to the omega and unplug the wire from the omega and plug in the wire from the condenser to the right side coil. I got about 10k miles out of mine which isn't too cost effective. Also my high speed idle is gone now. The bike idles very smoothe on the points. On the Omega after the bike got warm my idle speed would increase, so I have to assume that things were not exactly right with it for quite a while.

Guess I'm lucky - knock on wood - I've got 40,000 plus miles on mine - no problems. I do carry my bean can with me just in case . . . if I do have an Omega failure I could use a little help - if you please, anyone - (faded memories, along with a water soaked wiring diagram) - all I need do after installing the "can" would be to disconnect the wire at the "Z" terminal on the Omega and attach it to the condenser ? thanks - Norm

One of the tricky things with the Omega is that it begins to advance at only1000 rpm. That means if you set your idle speed close to that when cold it will idle fast when heated up because the timing has advanced.

Omega Ignitions are still available from the German supplier. You need to contact them directly using the following methods below. I'm not sure what's up with the Canadian distributor, but the German Company says they are still available....I can't get any information about the future of the units though. Maybe one of our German/European members could call them and speak to someone directly.
I did not have any trouble ordering an ignition via email back in March. Like I said before, it was actually about $80.00 cheaper and didn't take any longer to get to the US than the previous Canadian orders I placed. Not sure about spare parts....
