Euro accessories question

OK, buds...here's one I need an answer for.
You older folks know or recall the winter hand covers called Hippo-Hands?
What are they normally called on the other side of the big pond?
And who might have made them?

On the other side of the pond ? Don't know anything about that.
"Hippo Hands" will be a brand name of "handlebar muffs"
that were sold through Craig Vetter's company Vetter.
Apparently the name was sold, and a more contemporary product is being made and sold
by World Vintage Motorcycle Sales Co.:Hippo Hands

I have a pair that are made for bikes with bar end mirrors. It sure takes some getting used to, having your hands in there!

I love mine, even if they aren't the "real" Hippo Hands. Mine have no internal support to keep them open and upright.
If you take your hand out to do something, like mess with your face shield or turn your heated grips off or on, it can be a challenge to get the hand back in at highway speeds. But I still love them.







They were a gift from my brother & sis-in-law back when I was doing my winter commutes on the sidecar rig.

The original HHs used a plastic (?) rod fit into the outside perimeter seam.
That support makes all the difference for "ease of entry" –
and "ease of entry" will be a valuable safety feature !

Adding a "stiffener" of some sort might be a reasonable endeaver.
I have a "new" pair of HHs for the R12S that needed this detail.
