350g Titanium rods to fit are available from HPN:

Also Carillo will make connecting rods to specification.

But back on the VW idea--many aftermarket "VW" rods are made for smaller journals, 50mm or 50.8mm (2"). Perhaps a crank could be ground to match? Different lengths are available, possibly to use with pistons with a shorter compression height?

In the back of my head, and I don't know if any of this is feasible, I'm picturing a stroked R90, built with 90.5 VW 'stroker' (low compression height) semiforged flattop pistons, and R60 or other small chamber, small port heads, cut to give significant squish area. Just bringing some VW ideas into the Airhead. How much case clearance is there at BDC in an AIrhead?
Call me Mel. Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me at home, I thought I would ride about a little and see the other parts of the world.

Now busy searching VW sites....

I wonder how much reciprocating weight could be saved in total with a conrod/piston combination.

Those HPN rods look like the ultra expensive way to do it, so I think I'll give them a miss. Besides, they're not shiny enough for the money :)
New to the forum, but returning BMW owner. (R75/5 1970, R75/7 1977, to K1 in 1989). Not new to making, fixing, or modifying stuff in metal or plastic. Don't need to be taught how to suck eggs, but if you've got a new way, I'm interested :)

May be showing my ignorance, but is that VW sourced parts?

No that's $$$$ourced parts. I saw a complete disassembled R90 motor at a swap last year, affordable, and I've been building it in my head since, assuming the barrels needed a bore and the crank a grind, and applying a bit of "why not" from my VW experience.

Building it in my head, as I didn't have the $250 that would have brought that one home.

The downside of VW stuff is that a VW that turns 7K rpm is a rare thing, but that's what stock Airheads do. Always a question about how long, and how often, you'd be able to wind the thing out.

New from MI. Not cheap, but a better price than others out there.
These work with all cranks modified or not.

I bet that weight includes the bolts...maybe even the bushings.
