howdy. I'm back from Luckenbach, TX & the Harvest Classic rally.
I've got a '88 GS that has destroyed exhaust threads....
i searched the forum for a thread on this & didn't find one already so who in North America is the best place to send out a set of heads for exhaust thread repair?
I'm going to put a used bottom end on this bike & repair the exhaust threads & it looks as though it is road ready otherwise.
Some ham fisted monkey wrecked the threads beating the nuts off instead of cutting them off. He destroyed the nuts too....err.

Re: exhaust thread repair thread...
I would enquire at the places who typically do valve jobs. I'll leave it to others to say who is the "best". Names that I can think of are Tom Cutter, Ted Porter, Oak Okleshen, Anton Largiader, Bob's BMW, Max BMW, Memphis Motorworks. Not all of these will do this in-house, but either would send it out or offer suggestions on where else to send it.

A question about vanzen's alternative link.
How much cylinder head cooling do exhauts nuts do?
BMW did shrink the size of the nuts in 77 so they must have felt the early big nuts where not needed.

Matt, "the guy" in the NW that specializes in exhaust thread repair is Paul Sturges in Newberg Oregon. The phone no. that I have is (503) 538-five one six zero. I haven't used him, but I have talked to him in the past and his price was reasonable and he came highly recommended.

I had /2 exhaust threads repaired through Bluemoon Cycles in Atlanta. Pretty sure they sent them out somewhere. Quick turn around though.

Many dealers send their work to Paul and mark up the cost accordingly. Paul is one of the best craftsmen I have ever encountered...he can make your threads look new at a very reasonable price.esman100 wrote:Matt, "the guy" in the NW that specializes in exhaust thread repair is Paul Sturges in Newberg Oregon.
