1978 R100/7
I am getting ready to buy my first boxer and wanted to know how to check if the serial numbers match on the frame and engine, can any one tell me how to do that?
Re: 1978 R100/7
Check the VIN on the frame and then the engine, or vice versa. If they are the same number, they match.
PS The number on the frame is on the right side head stock/downtube gusset. On the engine, just inside the dipstick.

The frame numbers should match the paperwork. It's not uncommon to find engines that don't match the frame numbers.

Engine number is near the dipstick on the left side. Frame number is in two places...a label on the lower frame rail below the right cylinder and also stamped into the headstock on the right side up near the handlebar.
