My splines actually separated from the wheel at freeway speed. All the rivets popped loose on an upshift. Instant neutral in all gears. That was about 20 years ago. I repaired the problem by drilling the holes out and putting in 7mm bolts with nuts on the outside of the wheel. I ground a portion of the heads off so they fit flush against the hub. The bolts are tight to this day, no issues what so ever.

I agree with what Major Softie said about the ovalization not being likely if they are not all loose. I would peen the loose ones and maybe give the other ones a warning tap to make sure they know better than to come loose.
