New Diode Board

Post by mojord »

I have my bike apart for some long overdue maintenance. I was given a brand new Thunder Child Diode board by a friend of a friend. Any reason anyone can give me to replace the original one? My bike is 1974 r90/6 with 18,000 km on it.

Thanks!

If it was me, I'd leave it be and keep the Thunderchild as a spare.

And carry it with you on long trips, esp. out of state.

I am a believer of, "if it ain't broken, don't fix it". I have a Thunderchild diode board on my bike but I can't see any reason to take out a part that is working like it's supposed to just to install another part. If you do install the thunderchild, it's a good idea to use the solid mounts instead of the rubber ones that eventually fail. If you're doing maintenance, it might be a good time to install a ground wire from the diode board to the battery. You should get brighter lights and better charging. If I'm wrong there are others here that will correct me I'm sure. If nothing else, check the existing ground and clean all the electrical connections.

One reason to swop them over might be that the OEM diode bord is easier to pack and carry and thAt the thunder child will be a lot younger than the OEM one.

My thunder child has been on 2 different bikes and has worked since I bought it in 1996.
