I tend to buy 5w and 10w and mix 50:50. That doesn't give a 7.5w either, the final weight will depend on the brand. Next time I'll probably do a 10w:5w 60:40 mix. http://www.bmbikes.org.uk/Forum/viewtop ... oil#p89680
The brand I use depends on what's on the shelf when I buy it. No favourites for me.
I have used Belray for years.
Last year I used the same mix as SteveD - 50%/50% 5 weight / 10 weight. It was good.
This year I will try 5 weight. Why? - I read that BMW used a 3 weight oil at the factory so I decided to experiment.
I've spent most of my money on women, motorcycles, and beer.
The rest of it I just wasted.
My friend uses ATF in his forks - 1972 R60...likes it a lot. Says like a 5 wt fork oil. He runs standard BMW fork springs.
Going to try on my RS this spring. Currently down to approx 7.5wt (50/50 mix per above) from 10 wt., but still pretty firm for me. Think the progressives in it are way to stiff a spring for the RS. Opinions out there are to run the standard BMW springs and 5 wt. which I'm going to try out this year. Can always preload them later anyways.

+1 as per SteveD - 50/50 10w & 5 w, therefore notionally 7.5w. I overfilled by 10cc - seems OK, I'm happy with the results. I use castrol fork oil coz it's easy to source. i use castrol fluids (& greases) front to back on my airheads.
Just did the forks on my mate;s '78 100s (type II forks), used the same combination - he's happy... (His forks have a ~28mm spring preload spacer.)
