/5 nit picky details

Post by x1Buellist »

I have been working hard on my /5 project bike over the last couple weekends and am really having fun. A few questions have come up that I'm hoping you guys may be able to help me with.
First just a total obscure detail that I was curious about since I have been working with this part. The starter motor cover, along the edge of the cover where the badge is mounted. On just one side there is a recess. You would think that if the recess was there to help remove the badge when necessary than there would be one on both sides of the cover but there is only a recess on one side. Just a curious thing.

Next I have a new wiring harness. I have the wiring path mostly figured out but I have a question. I have several wires, the oil pressure switch, neutral indicator and rear brake switch wires. They seem to want to travel down towards the rear corner of the frame. There is a little notch cut on the frame, part of the exhaust mount ear.. Do these wires travel through that notch? and if they do, the next section down has a small notch also. Do they travel through that notch also?

Finally, I have a Keihan exhaust system. There is a indentation on the mufflers on each side. The indentations are not the same on the right and left muffler. Does anyone know what the indentations would be for? Her is a picture of the left side .

Thanks for any info you can give me.

The dent on the LH muffler is so that tou can remove the rear axle without having to remove the muffler. The dent on the RH side is to clear the brake pedal.

I have to go and look at my bike to answer the wiring question.

I don't know about the space in the starter cover, but the notch in the frame appears to be for the battery vent tube. The wiring goes inside and in front of the frame at that point and the rear brake wire follows the round cross member and was originally held on with two "C" shaped clips. The notch in the muffler is for pulling the rear axle, when it is on the center stand as shown and to make room for the rear brake lever on the right hand side.

OK, great. I don't have my rear brake lever mounted yet so I didn't realize. Thanks for the wiring route info. Running those wires is one of my next steps. The recess in the cover is jsut a curiosity. I believe there is always some reason for things like this. Heres a picture that shows both edges of the cover. Just to show the difference.

Could the notch be for condensation to escape?
