Any you Aussies done this stretch? I'm curious about distances between fuel stops,
road conditions etc.

Did it in '85 on my trip around Oz.

I don't remember filling up anyhwere tho Jeff. :?

I did get some nice wild oysters at 80 mile beach.

Ooh, and some bloody good fish at Pt. Sampson.

Use google earth Jeff, you'll just about be able to see the prices on the bowsers!

Broome................ah yes, the nudist beach. Lots of bearded clams there.
I remember getting my XY panel van airborne on Cable Beach one morning.

I also can't remember for sure from my trip in the early 80s, but I seem to remember that roadhouses were usually 100-150miles apart. A range of about 200 miles was good

I was bored at work the other night.

2 things I can still do at work, apparently, is read the forums in READ ONLY mode (don't sign in).

The other is I can play with Google Maps to my hearts content (at least until they say something(.

IIRC: When i was last up there (early 90s) it was roughly 300ks from Broome to Sandfire Roadhouse then (almost exactly) the same down to Port Headland... so good to have a 300+k range unless you like pushing your bike when it's 45+ in the water bag. Back in the day most ppl carried at least an oil bottle's worth (4lts) or two as reserve (and not a few prayers). i think it's not as bad these days, what with all the mining action up there thesedays. don't know if that's any help to the OP though... you thinkin of heading to the kimberlies/pilbara? there's definately some BIG $$ to be had (by all accounts).

Well I've been hearing its STILL that bad for fuel stops Pete, so I'll be carrying
an extra 5 litres as my touring tank range is around 230kms max with
the 1000cc kit.

How many litres does your tank hold Jeff?
That sound a woeful mileage figure.

I have the touring tank, 6.2 Gallons believe, around 24 litres yes?
may have calculated wrong when a friend (on his R1100S) and I rode to Cooktown
and compared Mileage.
