Getting Ready for the New Engine

Post by Deleted User 287 »

Image

Stephen is coming through town on Sunday on his way home from seeing Bill in OK.
We are going to get something to eat, catch up, and probably fiddle with the bike a bit.

I have a later-type center-stand I am going to try and install on my '79 frame.
This seems like the best time to fuss with it.

Oh, and I moved this thread to the main board so I could see it when I am at work at night! (shhhh...)

This deal may not happen.

$300 for shipping!!! Of course, that is because the seller decided to build one large wooden box on a pallet that would hold the engine, gearbox and intake system all in one.
weight: 200 pounds - 43x20x32"
And I guess part of the expense the the need for a lift gate on the delivery vehicle.

I have a perfect 3-ply cardboard box for the engine (24x24x24"), and another two boxes (nesting) for the gearbox.
All of the boxes fit into the large one, but Fed-ex wants $75 just to ship it to Utah.

Anyone have a truck headed East???

Rob, we need to talk. I can remove you from my deadbeat email list.
Ask the Indians what happens when you don't control immigration.

The seller told me you backed out over shipping. I have asked him how much of the bike he has and what he wants for it. If I end up with it, I have no idea how I will get it back to Texas. It will probably end up in Colorado at a friends house waiting for me to come get it.

Let me know if you are still in negotiations so I don't bid against you.

Go for it, Brad.

Duane has suggested he might bring the engine out for me on an upcoming trip, but we have not talked on the phone or anything.
I have a good gearbox, so I don't need that (I just wanted it!). But if you want to take everything he has, be my guest. I really have more important things to do with my money than try and get back on the bike. Gotta buy some of those NON-Monsanto seeds!

I'm going to turn the bike into a runner.
I will give riding a shot at that time. Commuting for sure, making runs to Southern, hilly Indiana hopefully, and an overnight trip to NC to "camp" at Willville, possibly - as long as there is a cabin available... No more tents for this guy unless it is in a FEMA camp.
Just make sure, if you do ride again, that the machine is fully operational. Suspension, brakes, up to factory standards. Because if you go back to riding on a marginal machine you won't enjoy it. Otherwise buy a nice newer machine that you will enjoy riding and will be safe. Maybe for you ABS brakes are the way to go. IMO it's about riding and not about a brand. It's a serious endeavor and even more so as we are senior citizens. While I love the airhead bike, they are still old technology and therefore less safe. If the machine is not fully up to snuff don't risk riding it. IMO
Arguments are never what they're about.

Moot point.
Parting out as we type.
Keeping the riding gear. I might get me a step-through some day.

I hope to not sound alarmist, but I think we are under attack from zombie masters!
We now have two ZM's

That can only mean lots of subordinate zombies.
