Update

Post by mattcfish »

Not much left of the lower section on the TZ750 fairing but here's how it turned out. I did all the work and painting. I like the results. Now to do something about that dinged up tank. Looks worse than ever with that shiny black rain deflector

Well done !
A fitting testament to good old fashioned dig-in, get dirty, hands on, personal involvement –
design, engineering, and fabrication.

Nothing less than INSPIRATIONAL !

... A stellar performance !

Thanks. You were right about the steering sweep being an issue. Barely clears at the grips on the up and down position.
If I had been able to mount the fairing farther forward I could have retained more of the lower sections but would have had to chop a big chunk out of the top of them (right ware the ducts are) to clear the bars. If I had dropped the headlight down more I would need to cut a big chunk out of the windshield. I also had to remove quite a bit at the rear so my knees weren't trapped inside the fairing on the corners. I think, through compromise, I came up with the best results functionally and aesthetically. It's at least as adequate as a 3/4 fairing, and cuts way more rain and wind than an R90S.
Cooling is retained, and I also don't have to worry much about seeing another just like it.

I had Goose's bike from that great Down Under flick as an inspiration.
I think I nailed it with the Lucas signal placement.
Now I need a new tail section. I've got an unused Airtech tail I picked up cheap that I was thinking of cutting up in such a way that the rear angles up instead of tapering down. I'd build in the BMW tail light.
The wife won't be happy to see a total solo seat on there, but I've still got the old Corbin Canyon she can sit on.
